the mess

Post 1 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Sunday, 27-Mar-2005 2:14:50

recently a user Jkyran got on to the zone and has caused a mess. He's actually getting clever and is posing as people from other locations. this time he was from forest hills. So... pardon all the garbage posts. I'm sure it'll be fixed very soon. If I could, I definetly would. Sorry guys, but have a happy easter.

Post 2 by Tiramisu (Generic Zoner) on Sunday, 27-Mar-2005 3:51:27

Liam, I am so upset, what is this funny people doing? Why can't they do something more beneficial then this?

Post 3 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Sunday, 27-Mar-2005 5:35:07

my gosh, this guy? clearly was very very very bored today. I suggest doing what you can with IP address tracking and in the meantime, trying to delete all these damn board posts from this low-life!

Post 4 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Sunday, 27-Mar-2005 6:31:57

Post 7 by medical queen (This site is so "educational") on Sunday, 27-Mar-2005 18:25:18

It was dkish this morning, last night it was Jkyran. He comes up with several accounts it's pathetic.

Post 8 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Sunday, 27-Mar-2005 19:03:04

Post 9 by renegade rocker (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 27-Mar-2005 19:39:00

Basically this person is using different proxies to do what they do, because this has happened before with that ABC person aka zonefucker2005, or what ever elce it used.

Post 10 by 1800trivia (I can't call it a day til I enter the zone BBS) on Sunday, 27-Mar-2005 21:54:44

Until the posts are deleted, we all have to page down through them when we view topics with new posts. I really don't get why people find screwing with the system so funny.

Post 11 by medical queen (This site is so "educational") on Sunday, 27-Mar-2005 22:31:18

Cause they have no brain that's why.

Post 12 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 27-Mar-2005 22:59:10

Tisn't yoru fault Liam. It's the loser's fault ehheeh. Haven't seen him around but that's cuz I haven't been on so yeah. Seems you cleared everythign away? Or else i've missed it.

Post 13 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Monday, 28-Mar-2005 10:02:58

This is just a thought/suggestion but would it be possible or fair to limit a user's post to, say 15 posts per 24 hours or something like that? Even 20, basically enough so that ligit posters will not be affected but it will prevent flooders from posting hundreds of messages to the boards before being found out and banned?
I can't imagine more than 25 posts at the very most per user per day and this might help to minimize the inconvenience, of course premium members could get the unlimited posting may be, but even that doesn't seem necessary.
Cheers

I looked on here and Oh My God! It's was full! I couldn't believe it. Don't worry Caitlyn, you didn't need to see them.

Post 15 by faithful angel (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Monday, 28-Mar-2005 10:57:29

I'm not blaming anyone. This could happen to anyone. It's anyone's fault. Stuff like this happens.

Post 16 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 28-Mar-2005 18:46:01

I went in my account settings to put him on ignore, and it said, error, can not get user, so I can't even put the creep on ignore.

I've been busy on my website - blindvi.org. So I've had limited time on here or anywhere else for that matter. I hope the matter is taken care of.

Post 18 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Monday, 28-Mar-2005 20:06:23

Yes, it is for now.
He certainly has gotten more clever now and tries to find ways around the security measures we implement. Thanks for your understanding, and to the great work of the CL's.

Post 19 by puppybraille (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Monday, 28-Mar-2005 21:34:07

Just a suggestion, is there a way that we can make some board posts private (zone members only?). Then we could at least hide the security measures from public eyes. So it'd be harder to get around them.

Post 20 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Tuesday, 29-Mar-2005 1:34:09

puppybraille? what do you mean?

Post 21 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Tuesday, 29-Mar-2005 4:06:33

I was wondering the same thing.

Post 22 by snowflake (Veteran Zoner) on Tuesday, 29-Mar-2005 4:10:52

Post 23 by Goblin (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Tuesday, 29-Mar-2005 9:58:56

Give the eejit a good hard kick in the server...

Post 24 by n1umj (Veteran Zoner) on Tuesday, 29-Mar-2005 10:27:49

you have to block by the member number that way not the user name, I found the same problem and it worked when I used the number

Post 25 by medical queen (This site is so "educational") on Tuesday, 29-Mar-2005 12:51:20

Hmm I wonder why it does that.

Post 26 by maddog (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Tuesday, 29-Mar-2005 14:48:22

only thing is it seems that everytime we get one of these people, and we clean up oe mess, another one gets made! We're workin on it though people. Just be patient...

Post 27 by puppybraille (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Tuesday, 29-Mar-2005 18:34:27

Sorry, let me clarify. When we're talking on the boards, anyone can see these posts. They can't post, but they can read them. When we talk about how a user is screwing stuff up, then how we're dealing with it, it probably helps them figure out how to get around the blocks you're putting in their way... Make any more sense?

Post 28 by SpectroGenie (thanks for reading) on Tuesday, 29-Mar-2005 20:05:10

yes I can understand what your saying. The reason that is there because it is showing you what you can get if you become a member of the site.

Post 29 by Japanimangel (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 29-Mar-2005 21:40:11

I kinda feel bad for you poor Admins. I don't get what people get out of fucking with things. I guess they just have no lives

Post 30 by Jess227 on Wednesday, 30-Mar-2005 1:30:55

Yup, those who aren't members or not logged in on the site can view the boards by clicking on the boards link at the bottom of the sign in box. Thus I think that they go offline, watch us sqirm and when things go back to normal then they the troll come back on and ruin things all over again. Now I had that problem only once. Guess what I had to do as a admin? Make the tough decision to hide the entire boards and make it members only and I never had the problem since. And I personally think (and this is why I don't post in any of the troll's topics.) It enjoys watching us getting upset and it fuels the fire by viewing our anger tords It as this person watches our every move offline.

Post 31 by Jess227 on Wednesday, 30-Mar-2005 1:36:16

So my suggestion is we can leave the boards up, but make certain categories like Lets Talk and other high traffic boards hidden, or make the boards members only meaning members have to log in to view, reply and create to topics. This is what I had to do on my old boards on my blindvi website.

Post 32 by Sarah Crossland (Always up for a debate. ) on Wednesday, 30-Mar-2005 3:06:47

I didn't actually see these posts, but it sounds pritty bad. Isn't there a new succerity thing now where users who have just registered, can't send quicknotes for a while? I think I saw that with a user a couple of days ago. Can't we do the same with the boards? Like everytime they try too enter them, a messege comes up saying, you need too be registered for..... say..... 3 days or something? Just a surgestion. I could be wrong about the quicknote thing, but don't think I am. Saz.

Post 33 by medical queen (This site is so "educational") on Wednesday, 30-Mar-2005 16:50:01

Hmm, good suggestion there Sass.

Post 34 by The Shuck Fitter (My name is Liam) on Saturday, 02-Apr-2005 7:26:10

when a user first signs up, they are unable to post board posts, or send quick notes, or interact with other users until they have been varified by a community leader or an admin. hope that helps.

Post 35 by n1umj (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 02-Apr-2005 21:59:41

the problem with makign the boards members only is, from some of what's said by the idiot, I think he's also a member of the zone with another name so you're not keepign him from seeing anything. I might be wrong, but it just appears that way to me.

Post 36 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Tuesday, 05-Apr-2005 2:03:58

Ya. Recall that the boards were hidden up until last fall. If we went back to it, it would only create an inconvenience, not solve the problem. The benefits outweigh the negatives, IMHO, as this helps with search engines and gives new people a taste of the site.

Post 37 by louiano (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 10-Apr-2005 0:18:13

OK. Why not for verified members only?

Post 38 by Inesle1987 (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 12-Apr-2005 16:34:33

I can not believe who does this nonsense. Is he so bored that he has nothing else to do than messing up the zone's boards or is he ill or something? Sorry for these words but i'm really upset, too.

Post 39 by The Wicked Witch of The East (we deserve each other) on Tuesday, 12-Apr-2005 22:56:54

I don't get it.....

Post 40 by The Wicked Witch of The East (we deserve each other) on Tuesday, 12-Apr-2005 23:01:35

Ummm I kinda get it.... Well, I do know you can can tell what kind of computer and where the person is. Well, the site owner can. I remember a few weeks ago I was on a deaf discussion board and the owner was making fun to me and said "heather, now should you really be talking with us while your at school" or something like that. And I asked him how he knows I'm at school. He knew I was at school because it said "mcps... Something something" which is montgomery county public schools so he knew I was useing a school computer. So, I think who ever owns this site or some admin could block his computer? Mabe that could be the answer.

Post 41 by louiano (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Thursday, 14-Apr-2005 13:29:24

hmm, the problem is that he keeps changing his ip, every few seconds it does. So if they block his ip it would not work because they would have o find all ips he uses and it certainly is going to take a long time and it is really hard to do. Well I hope the user chills out for a while... hmm, a huge hacker?

Post 42 by medical queen (This site is so "educational") on Friday, 22-Apr-2005 3:11:35

As I said in my previous posts, anybody who comes on here and does this kind of drama is obviously mentally retarded.
